Your Pain is Real

Chronic or persistent pain is a debilitating condition that affects many people. But do not lose hope. I have included the links below to provide the most easily accessible and up to date internet information on chronic pain self-management. You can choose individual sections or go through the whole course in order.

If your pain is not improving, and there is no underlying pathology (infection, tumor) as advised by your medical specialist, then you may have no medical explanation for the severity of your pain.  Or you may have been told you have a chronic pain syndrome and that “It’s all in your head”

First up I would like to acknowledge that your pain is real, and not imagined.  Your brain however, as the core of your nervous system, is the major determinant of your pain experience.

Pain Self-Management

To help regain control of your life, it is very important that you understand how pain is created in your body. Then it can be helpful to learn about pacing and flare-up management, thoughts and feelings, relaxation, lifestyle, exercise, body awareness/stretching and their effects on pain. See here for more.
